Physical Description T'Po is a slender young woman who carries herself with a simple confidence that frequently borders on arrogance. She keeps a stoic reserve on her rounded features, but they are subtly expressive to those who know Vulcans well. She is always alert and moves with a swift, brisk step. However, there is sometimes an awkwardness to her motions. She rarely appears relaxed. Her ears are elegantly pointed.

Personality Profile

General Overview T'Po has the typical Vulcan reserve and, if she moves beyond the narrow confines of logic, tends to remain dry or abstract. However, she is intensely curious about other species and cultures, especially humans. She is efficient, punctual, and highly analytical in her approach. She is an expert in (xeno)anthropology and astronomy and has a solid enough grasp of the other sciences to understand and oversee a department of experts. While she is comfortable with formal human protocols, she still struggles with the human social niceties. When she does observe them, she is entirely too conscious about doing so.

Personal History

Homeworld Vulcan
Pre-Academy Life T'Po is the eldest child of Sorik and T'Pon. Her father was a Healer and her mother a philosopher. She has one younger brother, Samak. She was born and raised in Raal. Her parents sometimes took her and her brother walking on the shores of the Voroth Sea to contemplate nature. She was told the story of T'Para and Falor. Her father played her all of Falor's Journey on the lute and sang her the song. She was interested in the idea of someone journeying far and meeting different people to gain knowledge. She was taught the teachings of Surak as they were then understood. However, these were the imperfect teachings transmitted by his disciples. As a young girl, her parents sought a closer connection with another couple: Salok and T'Pes. Salok was a captain in the Vulcan High Command and T'Pes was a lawyer. T'Po was betrothed to their son Suvok. Suvok also served in the High Command.

T'Po's early education was conducted at the local Learning Center. Her favorite subject was (xeno)anthropology. She was interested in other species. She studied the Klingons, the Andorians, the Denobulans, but it was Humans that particularly fascinated her. They had made a huge mark on local space very quickly and had brought together many species. They seemed able, sometimes, to govern their passions yet they strangely regarded them as a strength. T'Po's second favorite subject was astronomy. For most, it was a poor match with anthropology. However, to someone interested in contact with other starfaring species, they were a perfect match. She wanted to explore the stars and seek contact with other minds to be found out there. Because of this early interest in humans, she learned English at the Learning Center.
Academy Life T'Po was admitted to the Vulcan Science Academy. She initially spent several years studying the scientific method, philosophy of science, mathematics, logic, and taking survey courses in the various scientific fields. These were little more than the equivalent of undergraduate introductory courses on Earth, but they trained the students to have a broad understanding of the sciences and to take an interdisciplinary approach. It would later serve her well heading a department whose members had different specialties. Her weakest areas were geology, metallurgy, and chemistry. She did take an additional language. Like humans, Denobulans had a great curiosity about other species. They were explorers. She was also interested in their family structure and sleep cycles.

As she advanced, she chose a course of study in astronomy and anthropology. However, she did not simply pursue studies in two distinct subjects simultaneously, although she did have to take many courses in both. Her primary field of study was in the connection between the two, in the anthropology of starfaring species, their approach to discovery, and their interactions. She continued to admire humans, which raised some eyebrows, literally, among her instructors. However, one named Segak took an interest in her and helped her with her work. She initially wanted to do a case study comparing the human and Klingon approaches to encounters with other species. It was difficult to study Klingon culture systematically and, valuing her life, she made no effort to do so directly. However, over years of mostly hostile encounters and sometimes grudging diplomacy, Vulcans had learned a lot. With humans, in addition to academic study, she attended several social events at the United Earth embassy. Near the end of her formal studies, she changed her mind about the role of Klingons in her research. She thought Andorians made a more interesting contrast to humans. Despite the Klingon honor code that bound them internally, their approach to conquest was fairly straightforward. Andorians could also be aggressive, paranoid, and imperialistic, but they often viewed themselves as champions of the oppressed. They did not advocate such naked conquest. While hostile, Andorians were also at least somewhat more accessible. She submitted her work comparing human, Andorian, and Vulcan approaches to space travel and other starfaring species, including astronomical observations about these explorations. She defended it before her instructors and, while causing some controversy, she graduated. She was not at the top of her class but neither was she at the bottom.

Her time at the academy was filled with study. She also meditated regularly. During her ponn far, she and Suvok consummated their marriage. However, they did not agree on much. He did not approve of her admiration for humans. She worried he had too arrogant an attitude.

Service Record

Service Record 2137-2149: Vulcan Science Academy, see above

2149-2154: Science Officer, Sh'Rel

She served as the science officer aboard this Vulcan High Command vessel. During that time, she was part of a first contact with a nonhumanoid race, one of the first she had encountered. They were marine creatures with ten tentacles, massive brains, and an alien way of perceiving the world. Their habitat had been accidentally damaged by Vulcan colonists. T'Po was able to communicate with them after much study, logical puzzle solving, and trial and error. She was very satisfied with that accomplishment.

2154: Recalled to Vulcan.

She returned to her homeworld as the High Command fell and the V'Ket replaced it. Long having found some High Command policies illogical, she did not resist the change. She is not a committed Syrrannite but she read the text of the Kir'Shara. It was during this revolutionary moment that she experienced her first mind meld, initiated by a Syrranite teacher. It was early in the crisis that Suvok released her. He was a staunch supporter of the old order and believed her corrupted.

2155: V'Ket attache to the Vulcan embassy in San Francisco.

In this posting, she first interacted with humans in a sustained, non-academic setting. She was also helping a new government on Vulcan and providing advice to the civilian diplomatic staff. She especially requested this posting given her studies of humans. She made her first Starfleet contacts and sought inclusion in the officer exchange program the following year. Reflective in light of the Syrranite reforms, she was also more interested in Earth's spiritual tradition, witnessing several, and learned a little about another major Earth language, Mandarin.

2156: Bridge Science Officer, USS Challenger, NX-03

In preparing for this mission, she has studied Linguacode intensely along with Starfleet protocols and procedures.
